Want to read my book early and for free?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm releasing my debut novel on the 12th of July. I'm fucking stoked!
I've been calling The Fool a romantasy even though I think it's more accurately a fantasy romance. The queer romance is essential to the plot, but it isn't the plot. (It's also got a fade to black level of spice, which isn't the assumption with romance books these days.) It's got more politics and murder and stuff going on.
Really though, it's about family. How hard it can be to try and live up to their expectations. How it feels to love them. How it feels to hate them. How it would be so much easier if you could just feel one thing about them.
Also, the fool is just a silly little guy! God I love a good jester.
In order to build some hype, I'd love to give it to you in exchange for an honest review in the lead up to the release. It'll probably be on Goodreads etc on the 21st of June, when I put it on Amazon etc for preorder.
There's no obligation to like it, but if you hated it I'd ask you to hold off on reviewing until after it's released.
If you're interested, you can fill out this form or just DM me and I'll send a copy to your email address. I'm in the final stages of proofreading so there may be minor changes between now and publication, but it's very polished.
I'd really appreciate if you shared this post! This book is so important to me, I've spent 5 years writing it and I think it's the best thing I've written.
Happy pride! I hope you'll love these idiots as much as I do.

Convincing you to read An Academic Affair by Jodie McAlister with reddit posts from the characters.
Thank you, Simon & Schuster Australia, for approving me for a Netgalley copy.
From the moment this book was announced, I wanted to read it. Fake dating is one of my favourite tropes, and this is set in Australia academia? Yes, please. Naturally, I dropped everything to read it as soon as I got approved for a (last minute arc).
I didn’t expect it to become one of my new comfort reads.
If it weren’t for work, I would have binged this in a single sitting. Which makes it really hard to write anything about it coherently.
There were moments that made me laugh (Jonah’s footnotes! I’m 90% certain some academia jokes that went over my head). Moments that punched me in the feels (especially the sibling relationships). Moments that made me kick my feet in delight (the YEARNING!!!).
I loved this marriage of convenience between rivals. I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait to reread a physical copy. And I sincerely hope we get some companion novels about Sadie and Jonah’s siblings.
An Academic Affair is out in Australia today! So romance readers, make sure you get a copy.

Despite staring at these book covers every time I went into my high school library, it still took me to adulthood to read the Old Kingdom books by Garth Nix. As a kid I read and loved Nix's Keys to the Kingdom books, and had started reading Sabriel many moons ago, but never finished it. Until this year, when I was doing a lot of short trips by bus and needed an audiobook. I then simply Had to read the other two books in this trilogy. (And yeah I know there's more, I was just doing the og 3). Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen. The first about the daughter of the one good-guy necromancer in the whole Old Kingdom, a soldier out of time and a cat (?). The second about the one child of the Clayr who cannot see the future, a prince and a Disreputable Dog. And the third about the whole lot of them struggling to keep the world from ending, one lightning strike at a time. I genuinely enjoyed these books, even if I was older than our young protagonists. The world-building is iconic, the stories deep, the adventures strong. These truly are for all ages. Classic fantasy, so of course I got my sword out, and added my own Kibeth, (though I would so prefer her incarnate version rather than the bell version).

whats ur favorite book (or series)?
omg this was so fast!!!! thank you anon :)
my favourite book series has got to be the prison healer, it's by lynette noni who is an aussie like me!! it's fantasy, not shapeshifting like i usually enjoy, but it's written so well that i love it anyway!! i worship this book, i read it when im sad which i probably shouldn't because it is sad :( but it's okay u should def go read it :)))))
flox is peak character design, btw
i got to see lynette noni for the book launch of the third book in the trilogy, i have her personally signed copy above my bed :D she answered my question as well, which was "do you write on paper, or on a computer" and she said that she writes on computer because her hand is too slow to write out her ideas, and she doesn't even get to use all her ideas lol
thank you for the ask and letting me gush about my fav book and author :))))

15 for book asks?
15. A book you never thought you'd be into but were proven wrong
The Application of Pressure by Rachael Mead.
I chose to read it because a Goodreads challenge required me to read a book with a paramedic character. The story follows two paramedics in Adelaide, South Australia, with each chapter being a new emergency but also showing a little snippet of their lives. It takes place over the course of about 20 years, from when they are 20-ish and finishing training to when they are 40-ish and how the career has taken a toll on their mental health.
It is by no means a happy book, but it was very eye-opening, and it does have some funnier and light-hearted moments. It is a fictional book, but a lot of the stories likely rings true for paramedics. I was predicting a 2.5 to 3 star rating and thought it would be a bit of a slog to get through, but ended up giving it 4 stars and sped through it in one day.

Have you ever read a book that unsettled you? (AD - PR/ review copy)
Deep is the Fen by Lili Wilkinson creeped me out a bit. Not because it’s a full on horror, but because of the sinister undertone lurking between the words.
I loved it.
Set in a world where magic is strongly controlled by corporate interests, Deep is the Fen is an interesting Young Adult tale about how far people will go to get their heart’s desire, growing up and watching friends’ paths diverge, and how men will gladly steal a woman’s talents and work to gain more power. At the heart of it all is the looming threat of a creepy (not-so) secret society up to no good.
There is wonderful character growth, interesting twists, and many moments that had me going “omg it got DARKER?!”
Thank you, Allen & Unwin, for sending me a copy of Deep is the Fen for review.

🎉 HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY 🎉
Never Thought I’d End Up Here by Ann Liang
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
QOTD: Who’s one (or a few) of your favourite authors?
[instagram]
Review below cut
Thank you so much to Penguin Australia for sending me a copy of this one! All thoughts are my own.
I’m such a huge Ann Liang fan and this one did not disappoint. I felt so many different emotions reading tbis and I really felt like I was with them on this trip.
There were so many moments in this book where my heart ached for Leah. She was so lonely, so depressed, and I felt that deep in my soul. I related to those feelings even if I didn’t relate to her situation.
The friendship between Daisy and Leah genuinely made me cry? Like I was just so happy that Leah finally had someone like Daisy in her life, someone who was actually her friend instead of wearing her as an accessory.
I loved her and Cyrus and the antagonistic nature of their relationship. I loved how much Leah tried desperately to hold onto her hated of Cyrus even when she knew she’d fallen for him. And the way he loved her, my gosh, I’m speechless. He says all the right things and it was so utterly lovely.
I also really liked our bisexual disaster, Oliver. He was just such a fun side character and the little bit of backstory we got for him made me love him even more even if he is disgustingly rich.

indulge my camchase heart for a second
i just know cameron would get embarrassingly into “connecting with chase’s australian culture” like it starts off sweet and respectful but then it spirals...
like she’s bringing vegemite toast to work like “i made you a snack 🥰” and chase is like “this is horrifying.” she’s calling it “Uni” and pronouncing Melbourne like “mel-bin” even though she’s never been there.
she finds out he did pre-med in sydney and suddenly she’s like “omg should we do a trip there?? reconnect with your roots?? see the opera house?? go to bondi??”
and let’s be honest, chase is the most upper north shore private school sydney boy (canonically i think he's from melbourne but you get the point) you’ve ever seen: he’s got some kind of water polo-related trauma. he has a deep, unspoken rivalry with a guy named Lachlan. his dad definitely made him do surf life saving when he was a kid. his relationship to tim tams is complicated.
she makes him watch H₂O: Just Add Water one night and is like “did you grow up with this?? is this your childhood??” and he’s like “that’s for children.” but he does hum the theme song under his breath the next day.
